Your North East and Cumbria wildlife photos as spring on its way

Photographers have shared their images of wildlife as spring swings into season in the North East and Cumbria.

Paul Rayner, from Ulverston, came across an adder basking in the sunshine last week, while Neil Coleran waited patiently for a resident barn owl to swoop over Druridge Bay country park.

Spring equinox in the UK will take place on 20 March, marking the beginning of spring on the astronomical calendar.

In Newcastle Great Park, Dave Howarth said he had “seen the marvel of a starling murmuration”, adding it was “just incredible”, while Dawn Charlton was visiting Castlerigg Stone Circle when she saw a chaffinch checking out its reflection in a car.
