BBC Breakfast weather presenter Carol Kirkwood has shared the date of her final show after 25 years at the broadcaster.

The popular weather presenter has been a familiar face to Breakfast viewers for years and has outlasted many of the news anchor duos the morning news show has seen over the years.

But at the beginning of 2026, she announced that she would be retiring from her long-running role, having served 25 years at the BBC, to spend more time with husband Steve Randall, who she married in 2023.

Now, Kirkwood, 63, has confirmed the date of her final weather report – and the TV star who loves to have a laugh on air insisted it was no joke.

On Wednesday, 11 March episode, she told hosts Sally Nugent and Jon Kay: “My last shift on air is going to be 1st of April, and it’s not an April Fool’s joke! I can’t believe it’s come around so quickly.”

Jon Kay and Sally Nugent said they would be sad to see Carol Kirkwood leave.

She added that she had only eight more early wake-ups left, joking that she planned to throw her alarm clock in the bin after her last shift.

“It’s going to be sad, it’s a really happy thing as well, but I’m going to miss you guys and everyone,” added Kirkwood.

Kay and Nugent joked with her that her big announcement would be that she had changed her mind about leaving, adding that they had tried to convince her to stay.

Commenting on her last day announcement, Kay joked: “That’s a long-term forecast, you don’t normally think that far ahead for us. It’s normally five days.”

Carol Kirkwood showed viewers her engagement ring ahead of her wedding to Steve Randall.

In January, the Scottish presenter made the shock announcement that she would be leaving the BBC after 25 years.

In an emotional announcement on BBC Breakfast, she said to Nugent and Kay at the time: “I didn’t want to get emotional, but you two are my friends, and I love you dearly. It’s really hard for me to say this because I love my job. I love all of you guys, my weather colleagues, every department I’ve worked with, and of course, all the viewers I’ve been so engaged with for many years. But it’s great. I don’t want to be coming in on my zimmer frame, going, ‘I can’t reach the Northern Isles anymore!'”

Talking about making the decision to spend more time with her husband, she added, “We only got married a couple of years ago, and we’re like ships that pass in the night, so I’m so looking forward to doing that. I’ve still got my books, I’ve got a few other bits and pieces. I want to travel as well.”

The weather presenter has been a familiar face at BBC Breakfast for many years.

In a statement after announcing she would be leaving, Kirkwood said, “It’s been an absolute privilege to bring you the weather every day. My job is something I’ve never taken for granted, and I’ve loved every minute!

“From early starts and all manner of forecasts, I’ve shared it with incredible colleagues at BBC Breakfast, BBC Weather and programmes across the BBC. I’d like to thank them for their support and friendship, which has meant the world.

“And to those watching and listening at home – thank you for all the kindness you have shown me over the years. Being part of your mornings has been a joy. This hasn’t been an easy decision to make, but it feels like the right moment to step away. I’ll carry with me the most wonderful memories.”
