John Cartwright has stated that a new Hull FC contract for forward Yusuf Aydin could come later this year – with the head coach holding out ‘hope’ that all parties will come to an agreement in the near future.

The 25-year-old has been a regular in the Black and Whites squad since arriving from cross-city rivals Hull KR back in 2024 and has already told Hull Live of his desire to stay at the club beyond the end of the 2026 season. The forward’s current contract runs out at the end of the year, with conversations already occurring between club and player regarding an extension.

And Cartwright, who has featured Aydin regularly in his line-ups since taking over as Hull boss, is now hoping something will be finalised soon.

“That’s something Richie (Myler, CEO) and Andrew (Thirkill, co-owner) will look at,” he said when asked about a new deal. “But Yusuf has done everything asked of him.

“He’s been an important member of the team ever since I’ve been here. He’s a great lad – he’s a good team man, a good club man, and I’d hope there would be some sort of deal to be done there.”

As it stands, Aydin is one of ten first-team players off contract come the end of 2026. They are Tom Briscoe (one-year option), Jed Cartwright, Lennon Clark, Roman Dawson, Brad Fash, Zak Hardaker (one-year option), Ben Johnson, Hugo Salabio, and Ligi Sao. These players have been free to speak to rival clubs from December last year.

Meanwhile, Hull signed up young wingers Harvey Barron and Lewis Martin to new deals earlier this year. Barron signed a two-year extension, keeping him at the club until the end of 2029, with Martin signing a new five-year deal, tying him up until 2030.
