Pegula advanced after a resilient comeback win over Jelena Ostapenko, rallying from a set down to prevail 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 — a performance that highlighted her ability to reset strategically and absorb pace before gradually turning rallies in her favor.

The American has carried strong form into the desert, building on an excellent early-season stretch that includes a semifinal run at the Australian Open and a WTA 1000 title in Dubai, where she defeated Elina Svitolina in straight sets.

Bencic, seeded No. 12, reached the Round of 16 with a composed straight-sets victory over Elise Mertens, showcasing the clean ball-striking and early-contact timing that define her game.

The Swiss star has had a somewhat uneven start to the season — going undefeated at the United Cup, but falling in the second round at the Australian Open. She also had to withdraw from Abu Dhabi due to illness. But has gradually rebuilt momentum with back-to-back straight sets wins at Indian Wells.

Bencic looks to sustain that momentum against an opponent over whom she’s held an upper hand, winning all of their previous four meetings.
