Police attended the Stockport Pyramid restaurant tonight as diners reported being turned away by officers while checks on staff were carried out. One diner said he was due to eat at the Royal Nawaab for a friend’s birthday but was denied entry by police.
He said a police van was blocking the entrance while officers were ‘ushering all cars away and telling them to turn around and go to another restaurant in the area’. A spokesperson for the Royal Nawaab confirmed police had earlier attended but said the restaurant remained open.

They added: “We can confirm that officers attended the restaurant this evening. We cooperated fully and provided all information requested.
“All staff were cleared and the restaurant is open. We have nothing further to add at this time.”
The Royal Nawaab opened last year after a multi-million revamp of the landmark building next to the M60. Greater Manchester Police have been approached for comment.
