Milk and butter products from Jersey have been recalled after a chemical unfit for human consumption was detected, bosses have said.

Jersey Dairy said small batches of its 1l (1.76 pints) 2.5% fat reduced milk with a use by date of 23 March, and 250g (8.8oz) unsalted butter with a best before of 8 June had been tainted.

It said the majority of the affected products had been “detained”, but some had been supplied to customers.

It said while there had been no reports of illness and the level of contamination was “very small”, the recall had been made as a precautionary measure.
