One Last Deal, the new thriller featuring a one-man performance from Danny Dyer, is now showing in cinemas. Directed by Brendan Muldowney and hailed as the actor’s “best film”, the thriller sees the actor take on the role of Jimmy Banks, an old-school football agent.
Per the synopsis, Jimmy “desperately needs to get his troubled star footballer one last big payday before Jimmy’s life, and his player’s reputation, comes tumbling down.
“When the prospect of a major new deal with a promising young player appears, Jimmy sees a route to get himself back on top… but when a blackmailer calls and the shady dealings of his past resurface, can Jimmy keep calm and get the job done?”

Described in a press release as a “fast-paced, pressure-cooker thriller set in the cutthroat world of football politics”, the film was released in UK cinemas today (13 March).
The Big Issue described the film as “blistering”, concluding: “The end result is a celebration and magnification of everything we love about Danny Dyer that also manages to undercut his relentlessly bolshy persona.”
“So it’s a shame that the subject matter and star means the potential audience will likely be rather self-selecting. There is more to life than football, and a lot of that is explored here,” the publication added.
In their glowing four-star review, Filmhounds said that “Dyer is back with what might be his best film”, adding: “The film doesn’t feel like it’s ended completely satisfyingly because of its limited setting, when one final scene away from the room might have helped.

“But it’s held shoulder high by a never better Dyer who finds room for nuance as well as his usual mannerisms – and a fantastic needle drop of ‘Three Lions’.”
Speaking about the film during an interview on The One Show earlier this week, Dyer said: “It’s me in a room on the phone for an hour and a half. I’m gonna be honest, if you’re into me, then you’ll love it, if you’re not into me, do not go anywhere near this film, because it will wind you up.”
