A cycling influencer was captured on video during a harrowing fall.
On March 11, Cecilia Sopeña Espa — a Spanish content creator who shares her bike rides to over 363,000 Instagram followers — shared a video cycling along the coastline. In the clip, which has been viewed over 5 million times, she slows to a stop as her dog approaches her on the narrow trail, before losing her balance on the bike and tipping over the ledge.
Tangled up with her bike, Espa clutches onto the slide of the cliff face, skidding down several feet, but ultimately stopping herself from falling further into the water below. Her dog also comes rushing down to check on her, and the pair share a sweet moment reuniting, while Espa tells her pup she’s OK.

After the video gained significant traction online, Espa shared several more posts addressing the incident.
In her first post, on March 12, the internet personality said that she “came very close to being involved in a serious accident” — and that the “harrowing” incident had confronted her with “the fragility of life in a very real way.”
She also apologized to the cycling community for not wearing a helmet in the clip, calling her choice not to wear one “a mistake.”

“Although the context was a hiking trail with my dog — where I was using the bike merely as a tool to move faster along the path — I am fully aware that the image I projected was not the right one,” she wrote. “Helmets save lives, and I know that perfectly well.”
In another post, shared on March 13, Espa thanked those who had reached out to check on her after the frightening incident. She also said she was “deeply” touched by her pup, who she wrote “was there with me, close by, as if she knew something important was going on.”

“When I got out of there I felt a huge relief and a very strong awareness of how fragile life can be in a second,” she wrote. “I’m just fine today. I am grateful. And more aware than ever.”
