A person has been taken to hospital after an major incident in a Newcastle park on Friday night. A huge emergency service response including the North East Ambulance Service and armed police were called to the scene at Leazes Park shortly after 9pm.

An eyewitness told ChronicleLive more than half a dozen officers were seen entering the popular city centre park before paramedics arrived. Officers carrying guns also attended the scene.

One patient has been hospitalised with the injuries they sustained. The nature of the incident has not yet been disclosed.

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a call at 9.10pm on Friday 13 March to reports of an incident in the Leazes Park area of Newcastle.

“We dispatched two ambulance crews and a crew from our Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) to the scene. One patient was taken to hospital for further treatment.”
