Netflix earlier this week released a highly anticipated documentary exploring the so-called ‘manosphere’, and fans who have watched it have branded it an ‘actual horror film’.

Fronted by legendary British documentarian Louis Theroux, the film-length feature follows several notable individuals from within the ‘manosphere’ community including HS TikkyTokky and Myron Gaines.

Speaking about the documentary – titled Inside the Manosphere – ahead of its launch, Theroux said: “The manosphere describes a group of almost exclusively male influencers who provide content about fitness, business, and self-improvement.

“Many of them are relatively mainstream, but at the edge is a community of figures whose views are much more extreme, and that’s the focus of the documentary.”

In the new Netflix documentary, Theroux interviews some of the leading social media influencers and podcasters who profit from and spread controversial ideas from the most extreme fringes of the manosphere.

Titled ‘Inside the Manosphere’, the film sees Louis speak with social media stars and content creators who are part of the ‘manosphere’ as he examines the impact of online misogyny and ‘toxic influences’ on young boys.

The documentary was released to Netflix on Wednesday, March 11, and fans have taken to social media to react to the shocking content – with one fan saying that they had ‘bad dreams’ after watching the show.

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, @idlewildgirl wrote: “Just sat watching the Theroux doc from behind my dressing gown hood and my boyfriend was watching from behind a cushion like it was an actual horror film.”

In response to the post, @surshless said: “With the amount of boys who looked about 10 asking for pictures with these guys, it pretty much was a horror movie,” and @_Ellatiny agreed: “I’m not joking when I say I had bad dreams that night like I’d watched a horror movie.”

Louis Theroux: Inside the Manosphere is described by Netflix as: “British American documentarian Louis Theroux has long tackled subjects many people find uncomfortable to confront.

“From his early work on Michael Moore’s TV Nation series to Louis Theroux’s Weird Weekends to The Most Hated Family in America and beyond, he’s spent time with religious extremists, neo-Nazis, and — in his most recent documentary — influencers on the fringe of the manosphere.”

Other fans have dubbed the documentary a ‘tough watch’ and have been left ‘speechless’ after watching.

@hwatteokstars said: “Watching the new Louis Theroux documentary and I am speechless at this.” @CutiClub added: “Louis Theroux documentary is mental, it felt like an episode of black mirror at the end.”

@foodforwormss wrote: “God this Louis Theroux doc is depressing it’s insane how these men yelling about women and saying / selling stock apps, business courses are influencing young boys and men it’s crazy why is the world cooked rn.” @azurenic_ stated: “Louis Theroux never ever misses. Need him to expose more.”

@agneponx commented: “Just finished the Louis Theroux doc and I can’t lie, if you’re already quite well versed in the ‘manosphere’ it wasn’t a really shocking watch tbh, can imagine if you had no clue this was going on it would be a hard watch.”
