Marjorie Grange, 99, visited St Luke’s Hospital in Bradford as part of the #NeverTooLate initiative run by Crossley House Bupa Care Home, where she now lives.

Marjorie trained as a nurse at St Luke’s and spent her career caring for people from all walks of life.

During her visit, she was warmly welcomed by the team on ward F5, who spent time chatting with her, looking through old photographs of her in her nurse’s uniform.

Deborah Stewart, senior activity coordinator at Crossley House Bupa Care Home, said: “The team were very interested in Marjorie’s career and enjoyed looking at old photos and reminiscing with her.

“We do our best to plan meaningful activities for our residents, especially those that allow them to reminisce on the past and engage with the local community.”

Marjorie said the visit brought back many fond memories.

She said: “It was so nice to meet today’s nurses.

“I spoke to them about my time as a nurse and they listened with interest.

“Looking at the old photos made me very proud.

“I can’t believe how young I looked.”

Karen Morris, ward clerk at St Luke’s, said: “It was a pleasure to meet Marjorie today.

“She is so kind-hearted and I can see why she was such a great nurse.

“The team from Crossley House even brought a breakfast hamper for the ward, which was so generous of them.”

After the visit, Ms Grange and the care home team walked along the Reflection Walk, a corridor decorated with paintings designed to evoke memories for people with dementia and memory impairments.

Reflecting on her long career, Marjorie offered advice for today’s nurses.

She said: “Work hard and stay focused.

“Nursing is a very rewarding job.”

Marjorie will celebrate her 100th birthday on March 23, and the Crossley House team is hoping to mark the occasion by collecting 100 cards from the community.

Anyone wishing to send Ms Grange a card can post it to: Crossley House Bupa Care Home, 885 Thornton Road, Bradford, BD8 0HH.
