The Houston Texans have a new running back for C.J. Stroud in the form of David Montgomery.
Having seen his touches limited due to the emergence of Jahmyr Gibbs in Detroit, Montgomery decided it was best to move on.
Now he lands in Houston with a reputation of being a battering ram of a running back. His tough, physical running style makes him a nightmare to tackle. Especially as the game gets into the second half.
But David wants to make one thing clear to those who think he is only a bruiser of a back.
There are more arrows in his quiver than just that.
“As much as them saying I’m a power back — I hear that a lot — but I can do a lot of stuff that power backs don’t do,” Montgomery said via the Houston Chronicle. “I’m not going to talk too much about it. I’m more of a show than a tell kind of guy.
“I’m not going to say what I can or will do, I’m just going to show it.”

Montgomery gets starting chance in Houston
Having had to play second-fiddle to Gibbs in Detroit, as the young back has become one of the best in football, Montgomery hasn’t been a bona fide starter for a while.
But in Houston, he gets that chance.
Having started at least 13 games in each season from 2020 to 2024, last season, David didn’t start a single game.
That will likely change with the Texans as he gets his chance to fully showcase his talents without being in Gibbs’ shadow.
And he’s hell-bent on showing the world he is far more than just a power back.
