Celtic are now exploring a sensational move for an “absolutely incredible” player, who has been lauded by Chris Sutton.

Hoops eyeing new signings as title race heats up

It was a perfect Saturday for the Hoops, closing the gap to league leaders Hearts to just three points, courtesy of a 3-1 victory at home against Motherwell, while Derek McInnes’ side fell to a 1-0 defeat against Kilmarnock on the road.

Martin O’Neill was left very pleased with his side’s display, saying: “We knew it was going to be tough for us and that was the case. Motherwell are a fine side. We showed a lot of determination after giving them a goal to go one behind and it was a terrific performance.”

That said, O’Neill’s side have fallen short of their usual standards this season, and there is a big summer ahead, with bringing in a new manager likely to be high on the to-do list, while making some improvements to the squad may also be necessary.

Earlier this week, it was revealed the Glasgow giants are keen to bring in a striker, and they are racing Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund for the signature of Chivas de Guadalajara star Armando Gonzalez.

However, Celtic are also eager to strengthen at the opposite end of the pitch, according to a report from Football Insider, which reveals they are now exploring a sensational move for Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson.

Robertson could be available on a free transfer this summer, given that he is yet to sign a new contract, and his current deal is set to expire at the end of the campaign.

However, several major European and Premier League sides are also keen on the full-back, so there could be fierce competition for his signature.

Robertson could be “absolutely incredible” signing for Celtic

Given that Celtic already have Kieran Tierney at left-back, bringing in a new left-back could cause the next manager a selection dilemma, but he could be an exciting addition to O’Neill’s squad.

Jose Mourinho has lauded the Scottish defender in the past, saying: “I am still tired just looking at [Andy] Robertson. He makes 100-metre sprints every minute, absolutely incredible.”

The 32-year-old has won it all at club level, lifting two Premier League titles and the 2019 Champions League, and his experience competing for top honours could serve the Hoops well, given that winning the Scottish Premiership is always the expectation at the start of the season.

Robertson’s potential availability on a free transfer is an added bonus, and he has been lauded by former striker Sutton, who described him as “top class”.
