Built on half a hectare of land previously occupied by Network Rail, New Road Triangle in the London Borough of Hounslow is part of a wider regeneration scheme being led by developers EcoWorld London and Lampton Development 360 in partnership with the council.

The two residential buildings comprise a 14-storey tower on the western edge of Longford River and an 11-storey block running east-west along New Road – the larger building chamfered and stepped.

Both buildings feature four balcony typologies, designed to ‘soften’ the gable and long elevations.

Internally, the 176 affordable apartments are varied in layout, size and typology with 84 social rent units being managed by Hounslow Council and the remainder for market sale catering specifically to local households. The one-, two- and three-bedroom flats were part-funded by the Greater London Authority’s Homes for Londoners programme.

With a new frontage to Longford River, the scheme creates a new connection to Hounslow’s Glebelands Park.

The landscaping strategy includes new native planting, green roofs and improved access to wider greening, increasing the site’s biodiversity by 50 per cent.

Across the development there is also a 70 per cent carbon reduction via the implementation of air source heat pumps, solar panels and sustainable construction methods.

Architect’s view

New Road Triangle presented a unique opportunity to deliver a technically rigorous and architecturally expressive scheme on a constrained urban site. The chamfered and stepped massing, varied balcony typologies, and wide range of apartment layouts were all carefully developed to respond to context, optimise energy performance, and ultimately, create a great place for people to live.
