We are just three months away from DC’s next big screen adventure, Supergirl, starring Milly Alcock in the lead role. We first met the character in Superman last summer, where she established herself as the superhero mess of a cousin to Kal-El/Clark Kent, and owner of super dog Krypto.
In her solo film, she will be joined by some new DC friends, take on a new villain, and hopefully give young fans a new, more unconventional female lead to look up to.
The actress said as much in a recent interview with Beyond the Noise (via CBM), where she said, “I think young girls should walk away from the film knowing that it’s ok to be a bit bad, and messy.”
So far, there has been nothing but praise for Alcock’s portrayal, as well as Jason Momoa’s take on Lobo, but the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills, played by Matthias Schoenaerts, has mostly fallen flat, with early screening attendees saying his motivation is unclear and he’s not very scary or interesting.
You can check out a few new reviews below, that generally say more of the same, and you can watch Supergirl when it’s released in theatres on June 26th.
