A section of the Tyne and Wear Metro is to close for five days while work is carried out on the overhead line.

The line between Pelaw and South Shields will close from 13 April until 17 April with a replacement bus serving affected stations.

During the work, some 3,200m (10,500ft) of overhead wire will be installed.

Train operator Nexus’ major projects director, Paul Welford, said there was “no good time” to close a line but doing so during the school holidays would “minimise disruption”.
