Netflix’s “bold, brass, heartwarming and queer drama” Heartbreak High is back next week for its third and final season. School is out for the series lead Amerie (Ayesha Madon), and the rest of the gang as Hartley High’s students prepare to graduate but, according to the logline, it won’t be a smooth ride.

“In season three, it’s time for Hartley High’s graduating class to say ‘goodbye’ to school, and ‘hello’ to adulthood! Yet when a revenge prank goes horribly wrong, Amerie and her friends must cover up their secret or risk losing everything,” it reads.

The 90’s remake, centred around Amerie’s chaotic friendship circle, has had viewers hooked since the debut of its first season. One fan on Rotten Tomatoes, lost for words, shared: “I know you can be overwhelmed, and I know you can be underwhelmed – but can you ever just be so-completely-obsessed-and-‘overjoyelmed’?'”

Others praised the show’s every-bit-as-dramatic season two, stating: “Was not ready for the plot twists! Didn’t disappoint once again!”

While Heartbreak High promises to deliver whole new twists for its grand finale, the trailer also teases that the show will address the Amerie/Malakai (Thomas Weatherall) cliff-hanger and the state of their on-again-off-again relationship.

The series left things up in the air for the pair with Malakai heading on a plane to Switzerland, but not before pouring out his feelings for Amerie in a letter he left in her locker — a locker which went up in flames during the school fire.

“She never got the letter — but now we get to see what happens next!” said Netflix’s Director of Content ANZ Que Minh Luu in a press release.

She continued: “Renewing Heartbreak High for its final season is a major point of pride for us at Netflix. It has been a joy to work with the utterly cooked creative minds behind our favourite Aussie YA show and to bring our stories, our culture and our in-jokes to all the fans here at home and throughout the world. See you at muck up day.”
