Raducanu has also decided to skip Great Britain’s upcoming Billie Jean King Cup tie against Australia. However, she has entered the WTA 500 event in Linz, an indoor clay-court tournament, which takes place in early April. She had been due to compete as the 24th seed in Miami, meaning she would have received a bye to the second round of the tournament.

The one-time US Open champion reached the quarter-finals in 2025, sparking a run of promising results, but her progress has fallen flat since the turn of the year.

She has only won seven of her 14 matches in 2026 and her ranking looks set to be affected by her decision to skip the Miami Open.

In the live WTA rankings, Raducanu holds 1,465 points and is provisionally down three places to 26th. However, several players could overtake her by accumulating points in Miami over the coming days.

Her withdrawal marks the latest blow in what has been a turbulent year for Raducanu to date. She was forced out of her opening match at the United Cup due to injury before disappointing campaigns at the Hobart Open and Australian Open.

Raducanu then managed to reach the Transylvania Open final, where she was outclassed by Sorana Cirstea as she blew her biggest chance to win a trophy since the US Open in 2021.

She has struggled ever since and will be desperate to return to full fitness over the coming weeks to ramp up her preparations for the French Open, the next Grand Slam of the year, in May.

Speaking afterwards, she said: “When I’m playing someone who’s at the top like that, I think they have an extra 10 miles an hour on their serve than me.

“If I’m not feeling it, that gap feels more evident in terms of weight of shot, in terms of power. You just feel a little bit behind and your punches aren’t landing as much as theirs are.

“I need to be aggressive when playing those players, but I think there’s still a long way to go to be doing that. I need to use my strengths and probably mix it up a bit more.”
