Broadband customers have named what they consider to be the best internet provider in the UK – and it’s not Sky or Virgin. A new survey has crowned Plusnet as the number one choice, earning rave review for its value for money and its customer service.
The Telegraph asked more than 1,000 readers who they thought the best broadband provider was, and Plusnet was voted top in the majority of categories including Best Buy, Best Value and Best Support – beating several of the major players. The publication’s verdict was: “Plusnet is a great all-rounder.
“Its tariffs are among the cheapest you’ll find from the major providers, but that doesn’t mean cutting corners on important areas such as customer service,” it added. Plusnet has broadband packages from £24.99 per month, and is currently offering customers a free £75 Reward Card when they switch to selected packages too.
By comparison, the likes of Vodafone and TalkTalk didn’t make the cut according to Telegraph readers, while Virgin Media scored well for speed but poorly for value and customer service, making Plusnet stand out as an all-rounder. However, it didn’t win in every category, with Sky scooping the award for best broadband speed while EE was named number one as the most reliable provider.
Plusnet also takes the title as the best broadband provider according to Uswitch, who crowned the company as National Broadband Provider of the year and named the Plusnet Fibre package for £25.99 per month as one of the top options on the market. The comparison experts said that Plusnet “sets the standard with reliable speeds, great value, and customer service that goes the extra mile”.

Uswitch added: “Plusnet broadband deals are known for being great value for money, with fast connection speeds and excellent customer service. The provider even offers full fibre broadband deals, with download speeds up to 900Mbps available for very reasonable prices compared to other ultrafast internet providers.”
The experts went on to advise: “If you’re looking for a well-priced internet contract, a Plusnet broadband deal will likely feature towards the top of your shortlist.”
Furthermore, analysis from Which? saw Plusnet ranked as the second best internet service provider in the UK behind Zen Internet. As a Which? Recommended Provider, it was described as “the cream of the crop” with an overall customer satisfaction score of 73%, narrowly beating Utility Warehouse which came in third place.
However, Plusnet has a low rating of 1.9 out of five stars on Trustpilot based on more than 11,000 reviews from its customers. While this is a concerning score, it’s worth noting that it is slightly higher than Sky, Virgin Media, BT and EE, all of which have an average rating of just 1.3 out of five, while Zen Internet and Vodafone fare best with scores of 4.5 and 4.6 respectively.
Customers thinking of switching to Plusnet should bear in mind that, as with other providers, their contract prices increase every year. Each contract, from the cheapest Full Fibre 74 package to the fastest Full Fibre 900 package, increase by £4 per month on March 31 2026, and then again by the same amount on the same date in 2027.
