Nottingham Forest are through to the quarter-final of the Europa League after a penalty shootout victory over FC Midtjylland.

Forest opened the scoring before the half-time interval, with Nicolas Dominguez scoring a looping header to give the tie a level score.

Sum up our 3-0 penalty shootout victory in one word! Forest are through to the Europa League quarter-final!!!

Things got better for Forest early in the second half when Ryan Yates smashed a beauty of an effort into the Midtjylland net from outside the penalty area.

However, Midtjylland earned extra time when Martin Erlic scored to ensure that last week’s 1-0 win at the City Ground didn’t prove to be in vain.

In the penalty shootout, Forest bagged all three, with Midtjylland failing from their trio of attempts to crash out of the competition.

After the game in Denmark, we looked at the performance of the players and marked them out of 10.

His distribution is worlds apart from Matz Sels, and on this showing, Vitor Pereira has a tricky decision to make about who is the number one for the Premier League campaign.

Nikola Milenkovic – 7

Played a brilliant part in the first goal scored by Nicolas Dominguez and did everything that was asked of him with aplomb before being subbed on the hour.

Morato – 6

Allowed the ball to bounce off him far too easily for the goal which Midtjylland scored and he always seems to have an error in his locker.

Zach Abbott – 6

Did well as he got more minutes under his belt in a more natural central defensive position.

Dan Ndoye – 6

Not his greatest performance by any stretch, and he was correctly subbed on the hour as Pereira made a triple change.

Ryan Yates – 9

Scored a stunning goal to put Forest ahead on aggregate, and although he missed a very good chance in the first half when he hit the bar, this was a strong Yates showing.

Nicolas Dominguez – 7

Scored a brilliant header to draw Forest level in the tie and covered an awful lot of ground once again.

Dilane Bakwa – 7

His best performance in a Forest shirt by some distance with his cross for the first Forest goal a thing of real beauty.

Omari Hutchinson – 7

Was playing pretty well and perhaps shouldn’t have come off when he did. He got an awful lot of room to glide through the Midtjylland defence, and that stopped when he went off.

James McAtee – 8

Another player who enjoyed his best performance in a Forest shirt by some distance, and he was perhaps unfortunate to come off with a little over 15 minutes remaining.

Lorenzo Lucca – 6

Produced a moment of magic to keep a long Ndoye cross in, but skied an absolute sitter in the first half with the scores level.

Substitutes

Morgan Gibbs-White – 6

Tried to get things going when he came, but his teammates struggled to get him into good areas on many occasions.

Murillo – 6

Coped well with the physical presence thrown up by Midtjylland

Neco Williams – 6

Offered energy but couldn’t really get Forest going from an attacking point of view.

Ola Aina – 7

Unlike Williams, Aina did get forward really well, and he perhaps should have scored when Gibbs-White slipped him through on the counter-attack.

Elliot Anderson – 6

Not his best performance, and he was kicked all over the park by Midtjylland.
