In this article, you’ll find a ton more information about the phone, think of it as an everything you need to know article about the phone.

Xiaomi 17 Ultra specs

The Xiaomi 17 Ultra is the company’s most powerful smartphone to date. It’s larger than the Xiaomi 17, and it has a number of advantages, despite the fact that they have the same chip. Speaking of which, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra is fueled by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor. That chip is backed by 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and either 512GB or 1TB of UFS 4.1 flash storage. Only the 512GB storage model is available outside of China. The storage is not expandable, by the way.

It has a huge and gorgeous display

The phone features a 6.9-inch LTPO AMOLED display with an adaptive refresh rate (1-120Hz). HDR10+ content is supported, and the same goes for Dolby Vision. High-frequency PWM dimming is also on board (2,160Hz), and the peak brightness is 3,500 nits. The screen-to-body ratio is around 92%, while the display aspect ratio is 19.5:9. The resolution you’re getting here is 2608 x 1200 pixels. The Xiaomi Shield Glass 3.0 protects this panel.

A large battery is included, along with an immensely powerful camera setup

A 6,000mAh battery sits on the inside, while the phone supports 90W wired, 50W wireless, 22.5W reverse wired, and 10W reverse wireless charging. The phone does not ship with a charger, though. Bluetooth 6.0 is also supported, while Android 16 comes pre-installed, with HyperOS 3. Stereo speakers are included here, and the same goes for an in-display fingerprint scanner.

There are three cameras included on the back. A 50-megapixel main camera (f/1.7 aperture, 1-inch type sensor, 1.6um pixel size, dual pixel PDAF, OIS) is backed by a 50-megapixel ultrawide camera (f/2.2 aperture, 1/2.76-inch sensor size, 0.64um pixel size, 115-degree FoV, dual pixel PDAF). The third camera on the back is a 200-megapixel periscope telephoto unit (f/2.4-3.0, 1/1.4-inch sensor size, 0.56um pixel size, multi-directional PDAF, 30cm macro, OIS). A single 50-megapixel camera (f/2.2 aperture, 1/2.7-inch sensor size, 0.61um pixel size) sits on the front.

The Xiaomi 17 Ultra is available in a single variant globally and in two variants in China. The global model comes with 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB of UFS 4.1 flash storage. That same model is available in China as well, on top of a 1TB version. Neither variant supports storage expansion, by the way. When it comes to the price, well, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra costs €1,499. That’s the global price, and the one you should be interested in. Chinese prices are somewhat lower, of course. So, yes, it’s a pricey device, no doubt.

Where can I buy the Xiaomi 17 Ultra?

The Xiaomi 17 Ultra has a wide range of availability all across the globe. It’s actually immensely popular in some markets, and it even has a great presence in Europe. It has been that way for years. It is, however, not available in the US. In Europe, you can get it from a wide range of retailers, which vary from one country to the next. In quite a few countries, Xiaomi is present directly, while you also have the option of getting the phone through one of Amazon Europe websites.

What carriers does it work on?

The Xiaomi 17 Ultra will be compatible with a wide range of carriers regardless of where you buy it, basically. Xiaomi made sure of that. The availability of dual SIM and eSIM will depend on the region, however. There could always be exceptions. Below, you can find the frequency bands that the phone supports. What colors does the Xiaomi 17 Ultra come in?

The Xiaomi 17 Ultra was announced in three color options in China: Black, White, Starlit Green. The first and last colors are available outside of China. There is also a special variant of this phone called Leica Leitzphone Powered by Xiaomi. That is essentially a global variant of the Xiaomi 17 Ultra Leica Edition that launched in China. That one has a rotating camera island and a different backplate with vegan leather (partially). That model is also available globally in some regions.

What new upgrades does the Xiaomi 17 Ultra have over the Xiaomi 15 Ultra?

The Xiaomi 15 Ultra is still an extremely powerful phone, but there are a number of improvements that the Xiaomi 17 Ultra brings to the table. That’s what we’re going to talk about here. We’ll list some of the most important ones.

Powerful new chip

The Xiaomi 17 Ultra is fueled by Qualcomm’s latest and greatest chip, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. That is also a 3nm processor, as was the Snapdragon 8 Elite, but it’s improved in a number of ways. It is more powerful in general, amongst other things.

Bigger battery

Xiaomi’s new flagship features a 6,000mAh silicon-carbon battery. Its predecessor (in global markets) included a 5,410mAh battery on the inside. That is a nice boost for the Xiaomi 17 Ultra. It’s worth noting that the Chinese variant of the Xiaomi 15 Ultra had that exact same battery, but that’s besides the point.

Improved display protection

The Xiaomi 17 Ultra not only comes with a larger display than its predecessor, a 6.9-inch panel, but it also comes with better protection for that display. The company opted for the Xiaomi Shield Glass 3.0 here, over Shield Glass 2.0 in the previous model. We’re not exactly sure what are the benefits here, though.

Camera boost

This phone comes with a new main and periscope telephoto camera hardware. For some people, those changes will be enough to pull the trigger. The Light Fusion 1050L sensor is used for the main camera, a 1-inch type 50-megapixel sensor with LOFIC support. It drastically improves dynamic range and night photography on top of that. The floating periscope telephoto camera is also improved, and as we were able to find out, outstanding in terms of performance.

What cases are available for the Xiaomi 17 Ultra?

The Xiaomi 17 Ultra does come with a case in the retail box, but that’s just a regular, hard plastic case, which is see-through. It’s basically just something to have on hand until you get something better. Luckily, Xiaomi is also selling two different photography kits on the side. The Xiaomi 17 Ultra Photography Kit and Photography Kit Pro. The former has the grip built into the case, and fewer controls than the ‘Pro’. The ‘Pro’ kit, on the other hand, comes with a case and a grip that you can slide onto that case. It has more controls, and it’s generally a better option in our opinion. We talked more about each of them in our review.

Should I buy the Xiaomi 17 Ultra?

The Xiaomi 17 Ultra is not a cheap phone. At around €1,499, it’s actually quite pricey, but it does offer a lot for the price. This is one of the best camera smartphones on the market at the moment. It has some great first-party accessories for photography, not to mention that it has powerful specs all around. Xiaomi tried to cover all bases with this smartphone, and the company pretty much succeeded.
