Alisson Becker is not a traditional leader in the same way as someone like Virgil van Dijk has been at Liverpool.

Like the Dutchman, the Reds’ number one has been at Anfield for close to a decade now and has played crucial roles in their success in the Premier League and Champions League.

However, Alisson is not a vocal voice behind the scenes, yet he still garners much respect from the Liverpool squad.

Discuss: Arne Slot could win Liverpool fans back if he keeps showing passion on the touchline

There was much more energy vs Galatasaray, could that change things?

Speaking to The Redmen TV, journalist Paul Gorst provided an insight into what people around the club think of the shot-stopper.

While he’s not a loud figure who gives huge, passionate speeches, he is still ‘so respected within that group’.

Gorst said: “The culture that exists around the club that’s been created over the course of the last decade, really, you know, and he’s been a huge part of that. You know, Alisson, you speak to people who sort of see how it all works.

“You know, he’s someone who doesn’t speak a whole lot. He’s not someone who’s gonna, you know, beat his chest in the dressing room and you know, deliver huge rallying cries, but he’s so respected within that group that what he says carries weight. And in that sense, he’s a bit of a leader.”

CHANGE MY MIND: Liverpool are still the best team in Europe on their day

After watching all of the other quarter-finalists, the Reds have nobody to fear in the Champions League 🏆

Aside from Alisson and Van Dijk, Mohamed Salah is the only other 30+ player who has been around for a long time and should probably be in the core leadership group.

However, like the South American, he is not known for leading by example and pulling the team up behind the scenes during tough times.

Now, we are in a situation where all three players could leave Anfield by the end of the 2026/27 season.

All of their contracts expire in 2027, while Salah is wanted in Saudi Arabia going into this summer.

It means Liverpool will most likely have to find themselves a new core leadership group in the coming year.

On that front, Dominik Szoboszlai has been earmarked as a potential captain after Van Dijk.

The Hungarian has been Liverpool’s best player this season and hasn’t been afraid to face the media when things are going badly, unlike some other stars in the squad.
