Oh, creepy, creepy Bea Pollard (Ronni Ancona), EastEnders’ most unsettling addition in a very long while.

We initially had a great deal of sympathy with Bea after being introduced to her at a school reunion. Clearly still displaying the effects of Linda Carter’s (Kellie Bright) ‘pink posse’ bullying, we felt even worse for her when Linda and Honey Mitchell (Emma Barton) attempted to return her clutch bag and found her being evicted.

But when she arrived on the Square, it became pretty evident that Bea has a sinister streak a mile wide. Deeply manipulative and with a penchant for orchestrating events to either benefit herself or wound her enemies, it seemed that she’d set her sights on becoming Honey’s best friend, while it soon becomes clear that she may have designs on becoming Honey herself.

When her attempt at winning Honey’s hand in BFFship resulted in them both being sacked from the Minute Mart, Bea manipulated sweet (but not too sharp) Vinny Panesar (Shiv Jalota) into reinstating Honey, though she herself remained on the outs.

Wracked with guilt over their situation, and aware that Bea felt uncomfortable at Elaine Peacock’s (Harriet Thorpe) boutique hotel (which is definitely not a B&B), Honey agreed with Billy Mitchell (Perry Fenwick) to let Bea housesit while they went on holiday.

With the Mitchells away, Bea annihilated the kitchen, eating them out of house and home, while also committing serious fraud. After an argument with Elaine and Linda over money, Bea attempted to get a credit card. When she was declined, though, she applied for one in Honey’s name and was accepted.

Upon Billy’s return, he became uncomfortable with just how settled Bea had become in his home.

Flexing her new credit card, she took their kids, Will (Freddie Phillips) and Janet (Grace) out for the day, later munching popcorn while watching a film with them. When she later organises a Saturday job for Will, Billy tells her she’s starting to cross lines.

Next week sees Honey come home, deeply unsettled as she believes she’s starting the menopause. Bea is utterly overbearing at Honey’s homecoming and she and Billy decide the time has come for Bea to move out.

When Honey tells Bea, though, she’s utterly infuriated and heads to work at McClunky’s. Emptying the place of customers, she locks the door and proceeds to trash the place. Discovered by Will in the ruins of the shop, Bea thinks quickly and lies that she’s been attacked.

The following day, Bea prepares to move out of No.18, while playing on her ‘attack’ in order to gain as much sympathy as humanly possible. The question is, will this tactic work? Or does Bea have something more insidious planned for a family she clearly has no intention of leaving any time soon.
