Huddersfield Giants

Huddersfield Giants boss Luke Robinson is hoping to have a positive “selection headache” next week, as the club are set to have four players returning from injury.

In what would be a huge boost for a side who are yet to win in Super League this season, the club could welcome back as many as four players in next week’s game against Wigan Warriors.

An eight-day turnaround will no doubt help their chances of getting players back on the field, but the boss is not getting his hopes up too soon, given how luckless Robinson’s side have been with injury over the past year.

Speaking after the club’s defeat to Bradford Bulls, the former half-back remained hopeful of a quarter of sidelined players making their returns, including captain Adam Clune who is yet to feature in 2026.

“There’s a fair few coming back, hopefully. Obviously, we don’t know how they’re going to go in training but the way they’re looking, they’re on a trajectory that looks like they could play.

“That would be ‘Cluney’, Swifty [Adam Swift], Niall Evalds and Connor Wrench, who are all in the mix. I’ve not had a selection headache all year and it would be nice for me to have a selection headache.”

Should Wrench make the 17, he would be making his club debut, having signed for Huddersfield at the beginning on a month, U-turning on his decision to retire from the sport.

Given their vast injury list, the Giants had to bring in loan players in order to fill some spots in the squad, with Leeds trio Riley Lumb, Ned McCormack and Presley Cassell all joining on short-term deals.

“[They were] very good,” explained Robinson. “Don’t get me wrong, they’re only very young but it’s what we needed.

“We obviously were depleted, as everybody knows, so getting three new faces in was a breath of fresh air really.

“…I thought Riley [Lumb] made a really good chase back and covered when they made a break, which I thought was phenomenal.

“I thought Ned [McCormack] when he gets the ball, he’s got really good footwork and Prez [Cassell]… he is already such a phenomenal player.

“At such a young age, I think he’s only 19 years old, to play in the middle and play massive minutes for a team that he doesn’t actually know yet… I think he’s going to be a really good player.”
