Super League

Round five of Super League is in the books and it’s fair to say the table is starting to take shape as Wigan Warriors continue to sit pretty at the top of the table.

The Warriors are unbeaten after five games, but they had their toughest test yet on Thursday night as they were taken all the way by a very game York Knights outfit at the Brick Community Stadium.

Warrington Wolves and St Helens are joint second after the pair picked up convincing wins over Castleford Tigers and Toulouse Olympique respectively, while Braford Bulls continue to pick up points as they saw off Huddersfield Giants at Odsal.

Wakefield Trinity made hard work of edging out Leigh Leopards but got over the line for their third straight win in all competitions, while champions Hull KR continue to flatter to deceive, with Robins going down at Catalans Dragons.

Hull FC brought the round to an end by overcoming underdog status to claim the win over Leeds Rhinos at the MKM Stadium.

Super League attendances

A total of three clubs managed to record five figure crowds over the course of round five, with Wigan Warriors getting the biggest attendance as 13,187 watched their win over York. They were treated to an enthralling contest, too, as York gave as good as they got for large periods.

Bradford Bulls welcomed their biggest crowd of the season so far as they beat Huddersfield Giants in an all West Yorkshire affair on Friday night in front of 10,031. That’s a figure that demonstrates what they offer to Super League and the more wins they pick up, the bigger the attendances will be.

Hull FC announced an attendance of 12,871, which includes a respectable away following from Leeds, while Warrington Wolves saw 9,342 supporters pass through the turnstiles.

Wakefield had a crowd of 7,552, while Toulouse had the smallest attendance of the weekend with 4,652 watching their game against St Helens in the south of France. The attendance for Saturday night’s fixture between Catalans and Hull KR has not been confirmed at the time of writing.
