Super League disciplinary

A total of 15 Super League players have been charged by disciplinary this week but only one man has been suspended.

It’s been an intriguing season so far and round five was no different with some shock results being thrown up once more. Catalans Dragons probably recorded the biggest surprise as they edged out treble winners Hull KR at the Stade Gilbert Brutus, while Hull FC stunned high fliers Leeds Rhinos at the MKM Stadium on Sunday.

York Knights pushed Wigan Warriors to within a point on Thursday night, while Warrington Wolves racked up 72 points against Castleford Tigers. Wins also came for St Helens, Bradford Bulls and Wakefield Trinity.

However, the round made for a busy morning for the Match Review Panel, who have deemed it necessary to hand out charges to 12 of the 14 Super League clubs.

Ultimately, the one ban handed out goes to Hull FC man Cade Cust. The stand-off has been hit with a Grade C head contact charge and the five disciplinary points attached take him over the threshold for a one-match suspension.

The ban comes as a blow to Hull, who are already without skipper Aidan Sezer due to a pec injury, and John Cartwright could be forced to get creative when it comes to his spine options.

Seven players have been handed Grade B charges, with Wakefield Trinity’s Ky Rodwell, Asher O’Donnell of Huddersfield Giants, Castleford Tigers debutant Semi Valemei and Leeds Rhinos’ Lachie Miller all being punished for late contact on the passer.

Ryan Sutton and Patrick Mago have landed head contact charges, while Warrington Wolves’ Liam Byrne is sanctioned for dangerous contact.

The remaining seven players have all being given Grade A charges with Romeo Tropis, Lambert Belmas, Sam Cook, Lewis Martin, Dean Hadley, Phoenix Laulu-Togaga’e and Josh Allen earning a single disciplinary point.
