Berrow Primary Church Academy has received a welcome boost thanks to volunteers from Burnham & Berrow Golf Club, who have been giving up their time to help improve the school’s forest school area and allotments.

Members of the club’s grounds team have been visiting the school for regular sessions, working alongside staff to clear overgrown sections, tidy pathways and create a more accessible outdoor learning space for pupils.

The improvements will allow children to make greater use of the forest school, which plays a key role in hands‑on learning, wellbeing and helping pupils connect with nature.

The school’s allotments have also seen major progress, with volunteers preparing soil, removing weeds and helping to establish new planting areas ahead of the growing season. The allotments are used to teach pupils about sustainability, food growing and environmental responsibility.

Julie Nichols, Chair of the Community Council, said the support had made a huge difference. “Our volunteers have made a huge difference in such a short amount of time,” she said. “Their hard work has helped transform these spaces into something the children can really benefit from.”

The partnership has been welcomed by staff, who say projects of this scale can be difficult to complete without community involvement. The improved areas are already being put to use, with outdoor lessons, gardening activities and forest school sessions set to expand in the coming months.

Headteacher Charlotte Bradley added: “Our outdoor learning environment allows the children at Berrow to truly thrive. Collaborating with members of our community is something we take great pride in at Berrow and we’d like to say a huge thank you to the Golf Club.”

The school hopes the collaboration will inspire further community involvement, showing how small acts of volunteering can make a big difference locally.
