Hull FC have suffered another ban meaning John Cartwright will once again have to shake up his spine for this week’s Super League clash at home to Catalans Dragons.

The Black and Whites put in a season-best performance on Sunday afternoon to beat Leeds Rhinos but it came at a cost with utility Cade Cust handed a one-match ban, putting further pressure on the club’s spine.

Will Pryce (ACL) is out for the season and Aidan Sezer (pec) is confirmed to be missing the next six weeks, creating doubt about who will play in the halves alongside Jake Arthur this Sunday.

Arthur had his best game to date in a Hull FC shirt but the question of who partners him this weekend is a tough one to answer, so we’ve had a look at who John Cartwright could consider.

Hull FC set to back teen

In recent weeks it’s been Zak Hardaker at full-back otherwise the veteran could himself be a contender in the halves as it’s a position that he was thrust into at times last year.

For Hardaker to move away from full-back then the Black and Whites would need to replace him Logan Moy and Lloyd Kemp the obvious options, however, the answer to half-back could be even easier.

Lloyd’s brother Callum Kemp may be the solution with the 19-year-old having already played twice this season in Super League, including in the halves in round one when Jake Arthur was absent.

Kemp was then named on the bench in round two but hasn’t made an appearance since but he may be called upon this week as Jake Arthur’s playing partner, though the obvious issue would be the lack of experience.

That’s alleviated somewhat by the fact loose forward John Asiata is playing lights out at the moment with he and Hardaker set to be the calm heads in the spine who can offer an element of control and allow Arthur and Kemp to play their game.

Arthur took on the majority of the kicking duties on Sunday and that would remain the case with the senior player of the pair becoming the string-puller, with Kemp instead tasked with taking on the line.

A win in such circumstances off the back of the victory over Leeds would give FC some huge momentum heading into the derby against Hull KR, for which Cust would be back.
