Helldivers 2 PlayStation x Xbox

PlayStation management has been credited as the ones pushing to get Helldivers 2 on Xbox Series X|S, rather than the lead developers within Arrowhead Studios.

In response to fans on Discord (via Windows Central), the developer’s CEO Shams Jorjani said any praise for making the Helldivers 2 port onto Xbox Series X|S a reality should go to PlayStation. “It was all PlayStation. Send them your thanks. We were all in support of course,” he said.

A follow-up question then asks Jorjani if he ever expected Sony to allow for an Xbox version, to which he responded: “I think it’s one of the coolest things they’ve done. They’re killing it.” Helldivers 2 launches for Xbox Series X|S on the 28th August, the same day Gears of War: Reloaded launches on PS5.

Much has been made of PlayStation’s potential expansion into multi-platform releases after originally starting out with PC ports over the past couple of years, and now deciding to put Helldivers 2 onto Xbox.

These conversations were accelerated by a job listing advertising a position looking for someone to shape and execute “the global commercial strategy for PS Studios software titles across all digital platforms beyond PlayStation hardware, including Steam, Epic Games Store, Xbox, Nintendo, and mobile”.

However, reliable games industry member Shinobi602 played down the possibilities of the role and suggested PS5 fans were getting “really carried away” with their speculation. Since then, leaker NateTheHate has claimed more first-party PS5 titles will indeed make their way to Xbox in the future. They just don’t have the specifics on which games it’ll be.

Of course, more games are coming in the other direction, as Microsoft’s multi-platform efforts mean The Outer Worlds 2 comes to PS5 in October, and Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 next week. The likes of Gears of War: E-Day and State of Decay 3 are also rumoured for the platform.
