Brock Lesnar has competed in some huge events during his incredibly successful crossover career.

After initially making his name in the WWE, Lesnar achieved some remarkable feats inside the Octagon having held the UFC heavyweight title from 2008 to 2010.

He beat legends of the sport like Randy Couture and Frank Mir during a run that helped take the UFC to new heights with the amount of attention that he drew.

Having been away from WWE programming throughout all of 2024 due to controversies that remain unsettled, Lesnar made a shocking return this past weekend at SummerSlam.

While ‘The Beast Incarnate’ now looks to have John Cena back in his sights, there was one point in time where the former UFC star could’ve faced off with one of the biggest names in boxing.

In 2019, Brock Lesnar was a big part of the WWE’s plans for the year having held and lost the Universal Championship on several occasions.

After losing that belt in August, the former UFC titleholder would go on to claim the WWE Championship the very next month, setting him up for a first title defense at the promotion’s upcoming event in Riyadh.

His former UFC rival Cain Velasquez immediately attacked Lesnar after his title win to set up a match between them that ended quickly with the defending champion earning his revenge.

However, Velasquez wasn’t always the plan for a drafted in opponent that would lead to a big showcase match at WWE’s Crown Jewel.

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer claimed that there were internal discussions about Lesnar facing Tyson Fury instead.

Meltzer claimed that the WWE changed direction once Velasquez became an option because he was a bigger star in the United States and had history with Lesnar.

Fury did appear on the event in a match with Braun Strowman, which he won via count out.

Tyson Fury later claimed that he would beat Brock Lesnar in 30 seconds

The month after his appearance at WWE’s Crown Jewel event, Tyson Fury said that he was still interested in competing against Brock Lesnar in some form.

He claimed on the True Geordie podcast that he was confident that he could beat the former UFC heavyweight champion regardless of the ruleset that they faced off in.

“I fancy a fight with Brock, for sure,” he said. “I watched a few of his fights. [He’s] pretty handy, but I can flatten him. In a WWE match or a proper fight, I can flatten Brock Lesnar in 30 seconds.”

Following his team’s concerns regarding potential injuries ahead of his rematch with Deontay Wilder that took place in February of 2020, Fury didn’t make a full return to the WWE ring.
