Manchester United might be in the midst of a long break without any football but that hasn’t stopped the headlines coming thick and fast. Quirks of the fixture calendar mean Michael Carrick’s side won’t return to action until April 13, some 24 days after their last game at Bournemouth.

A 2-2 draw on the south coast, combined with results elsewhere, means United remain third in the Premier League table. They’re just one point clear of fourth-place Aston Villa but six clear of Liverpool in fifth and seven above Chelsea.

Leeds will visit Old Trafford after the international break, while United’s next game after that sees them travel to Stamford Bridge with a chance to give their top-four hopes a huge boost. Before then, though, they’ll hope their players can come through the international break unscathed.

During the current break from club football, some off-field matters – be they transfer rumours or other updates – have hit the headlines. Here are Mirror Football’s latest lines.

Manchester United academy star Kai Rooney will miss the remainder of the season. The teenager delivered the painful update on social media on Thursday.

“Disappointed to be out for the rest of the season. Back stronger next pre-season,” he wrote on Instagram Stories.

Rooney, the son of former United icon Wayne, made his Old Trafford debut earlier this season in the FA Youth Cup. He made six league appearances for the Under-18 side, scoring twice and adding one assist.

Lewis-Skelly interest

Arsenal youngster Myles Lewis-Skelly has been added to United’s summer transfer shortlist, according to football.london. The England international has seen his opportunities in north London diminish after the loan addition of Piero Hincapie, whose move from Bayer Leverkusen is expected to be made permanent in the summer.

Lewis-Skelly made his senior England debut last season after impressing at left-back, despite being mostly used in midfield in his academy days. He made 23 league appearances for Arsenal’s first-team last term, many of them starts, but has played just 312 minutes in the competition this time around.

“Every season is different,” Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta said of the youngster earlier this month. “He had very good moments in this season. He had other moments when he hasn’t played in that much.”

United appear to be in the market for a new left-back in the summer, while Lewis-Skelly’s age and versatility will surely be seen as benefits. They signed teenage full-back Diego Leon from Cerro Porteno in 2025 but the Paraguayan has predominantly been part of the Under-21 set-up this term.
