The former Felixstowe Ferry Golf Club member voiced his fears about the corner where Cliff Road meets Ferry Road for golfers returning to their cars after playing on Felixstowe Ferry Golf Club’s Kingsfleet course.
He emailed the club after completing a round on the Kingsfleet course, saying: “Our way back to the car park was very dangerous…along the main road, no footpath, no signage, SEH contractors who just said ‘that’s council land.'”
Ipswich construction firm SEH French began construction work at the club in January 2025, with completion expected in three months time.
The project includes five homes, which will be part of the Balfour Place development and will all have sea and golf course views as well as membership to the golf club.Â
Plans for the site also include the construction of a new 1,020 sqm clubhouse, café and public toilets.Â
Complete with a sloped, living roof, it is hoped the building will help to future-proof the golf club and make the sport more accessible to the community.
Golfers are currently using the nearby Clifflands car park in Cliff Road to park as the club’s car park has been built on within the site, which is surrounded by heras fencing that restricts golfers to wheeling their trolleys along the grass verge or in the road.
The golf club did not wish to comment, but highlighted signs on the Kingsfleet course side of Ferry Road making golfers aware they were approaching a dangerous crossing.
One of the signs reads “Caution: You are now crossing a road. Please check both ways before crossing.”
Another sign states: “Beware: You are crossing a public highway. Traffic coming from both directions.”
A spokesman for the county council said: “Suffolk County Council confirmed they have not been contacted by the golf club about any issues along Ferry Road.”
