Paul Scott has been appointed as the new chief executive of East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust (ESNEFT), which incorporates Colchester Hospital and Ipswich Hospital.

Mr Scott, who will take up the role in July, brings extensive experience from across the NHS, having started his career as a graduate trainee in finance.

He currently serves as chief executive at Essex Partnership University Trust, which has been subject to criticism recently as part of the Lampard Inquiry into the deaths of more than 2,000 people at NHS-run mental health units in Essex.

Prior to that, he was chief financial officer at Cambridge University Hospitals Foundation Trust, where he led major work on system development and integration.

His earlier career includes serving as executive director of finance, strategy and performance at Ipswich Hospital NHS Trust, alongside senior leadership roles within the East of England Ambulance Service and Mid Essex Hospital Services NHS Trust.

Speaking about his appointment, Mr Scott said: “I’m looking forward to joining the ESNEFT team in July, where I know together, we can build on service improvements and transformation that has already started, ensuring that the voices of patients and their families are central to the design and delivery of care.”

Tracy Dowling, chair of ESNEFT, welcomed Paul’s appointment and said: “We are delighted that Paul will be joining us as chief executive.

“His compassionate leadership style and emphasis on inclusive partnership working will help us achieve our shared ambition of delivering the very best healthcare to the communities we serve.

Mr Scott will replace former chief executive Nick Hulme, who stepped down from the role earlier this year after leading the organisation since its formation in 2018.

Last month, Ipswich Hospital was judged to require improvement by the CQC after ther inspection saw patients waiting up to 20 hours for treatment.
