The death of an elderly woman following a house fire in Co Tyrone is “absolutely heartbreaking”, an MLA said today.
The PSNI said the woman, who was aged in her 70s, died following the blaze at a residential property in the Derrycush Park area of Aughnacloy on Wednesday evening.
Police were notified of the fire shortly after 6pm.
They attended the scene alongside colleagues from the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service and the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze but it was confirmed the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman’s name has not yet been released.
A police spokesperson said enquiries are ongoing over the incident but said the death is not being treated as suspicious at this stage.
Sinn Fein MLA Colm Gildernew said it was “absolutely heartbreaking” news.
“I want to express my condolences to the family, friends and neighbours of this woman, who now face extremely difficult days and weeks ahead,” he said.
“The community is in shock today, but I have no doubt they will rally around to support the woman’s loved ones in the time ahead.”
