(InvestigateTV) — Spring is a great time to re-evaluate where you are with your money, according to Cherry Dale, vice president of financial education at Virginia Credit Union.
“One of the best things you can do is take a look at all of the different subscriptions you have whether it’s cable, Amazon, any type of subscription you have, and make sure that you’re utilizing those,” Dale said. “For the ones that you are not using, get those canceled.”
Dale said this simple step can save up to $50 a month, which adds up over time.
Dale said you also want to take a hard look at what is automatically deducted from your accounts each month, like electricity, water or gas payments.
“Things you have already set up to pay your bills to make sure that everything is accurate first of all, and that you’re preparing financially for those things,” Dale said. “Making sure the cushion is there so you don’t get an extra charge because your account’s overdrawn, because something has automatically come out of that account.”
Dale said to also look at your debt load. Pull your credit report and see what debts are listed and develop a plan to pay it all off.
She said spring is a great time for a fresh start.
