Reality TV star Chloe Sims was forced to respond to trolls who labelled her a bad mother for appearing on The Only Way Is Essex. Chloe, 44, who left the show in 2022 after 11 years, explained on Paul C Brunson’s podcast, We Need To Talk, that she faced a string on abuse by those who felt it was wrong for her to be away from her daughter while filming the reality show.

Her daughter Maddie, 20, has remained out of the spotlight while Chloe’s TV career soared. Chloe raised Maddie as a single mum at the age of 18 after becoming pregnant with her ex Matthew, who she was with for seven years.

In the interview, Paul claimed that there was talk surrounding her enjoying her life on screen while her daughter was at home.

In response, she said: “That’s what the feedback was. Imagine getting told that twice a week, a s*** mum, where’s your daughter? Even up until recently I would still get it.”

She added: “People will be like ‘where’s your kid?’ She’s turning 21 in a couple of months but people don’t see it, they don’t know. They still think she is little.”

Chloe said that when Maddie was only five she introduced her to her life on screen but soon decided to wait until she was 16. And at that age Maddie decided she “didn’t like it.”

While Chloe is used to defending herself against online backlash, she found herself taking a new approach when it came to defending her daughter against online abuse.

She admitted to saying: “You better hope to high heaven I never come face to face or find out who you are. Because that’s like, no. I have been known to DM people privately, don’t come for a child.”

Speaking about the breakdown of her relationship with Maddie’s dad, she told New magazine: “I was with Maddie’s dad, Matthew, for seven years, but we ended up like brother and sister and that isn’t what I want. She has a good relationship with her dad. I’m very close to her dad’s parents. She is surrounded by people who love her.”

Chloe made the decision to quit TOWIE back in July 2022 after more than a decade. During her time on the programme, the trials and tribulations of her life was played out for all to see.

One storyline which held viewers in a state of anticipation was her romance with Dan Edgar, which ended up leaving Chloe heartbroken. Confirming the news of her departure, the ITV show took to its Instagram stories.

The show said: “After dedicating over a decade to The Only Way Is Essex, Chloe Sims has decided to depart the show. Chloe has been an iconic presence since her arrival on TOWIE, and we have enjoyed following her close friendships, relationships, and strong family values onscreen throughout the ups and downs. We wish Chloe all the best in the future! [heart emoji].”

And Chloe then took to social media to inform fans. She said at the time: “I would like to thank ITV and Lime Pictures for the life-changing opportunity to work on TOWIE for so many years. I could never have imagined after my first TOWIE scene that I would be saying goodbye 12 years later.”

She added: “It has been a blast, especially making lifelong memories with friends, the cast and crew. I feel so privileged to have been able to share the most amazing experience with several family members over the years as well. For that alone, I will be forever grateful.”
