People have been left gobsmacked after NASA revealed the food menu for the four astronauts currently undertaking the 10-day Artemis II mission in space, with many making the same joke.
On 1 April, NASA launched its Artemis II mission, marking the first time in over 50 years that four astronauts have journeyed to space and around the moon. NASA’s Space Launch System rocket took off from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, ferrying the Orion spacecraft and its crew on a planned test flight around the moon and back, according to a statement from the space agency. This represents a significant milestone in the agency’s long-term strategy to return humans to the lunar surface.
The mission will span 10 days, during which the crew will partake in several meals in space. But what does the food look like for these astronauts? NASA has unveiled the menu available for the crew, leaving people baffled.
The Artemis II menu features items such as barbecued beef brisket, vegetable quiche, broccoli au gratin, and macaroni and cheese. The extensive drinks options range from a mango-peach smoothie and chocolate and strawberry breakfast drinks to coffee and green tea. In total, NASA anticipates the four astronauts will consume 43 cups of coffee during their 10-day mission.

The space agency clarified in their announcement that the food aboard Artemis II is designed to support crew health and performance during the mission around the Moon.
With no resupply, refrigeration, or late-loading capability, every meal must be meticulously chosen to remain safe, shelf-stable, and straightforward to prepare and eat in the spacecraft.
However, that doesn’t mean astronauts can’t savour delicious and appetising food. Alongside the menu, NASA also disclosed that five different hot sauces are also heading to space with the crew.

Other additional flavouring choices include maple syrup, chocolate spread and peanut butter, as well as honey strawberry jam, amongst other options.
And should the crew experience a sudden craving for something sweet, the food supply also includes cookies, chocolate, cake, candy coated almonds, cobbler, and pudding.
After the food menu was shared by X account Pop Base, hundreds of people quickly flocked to the comment section, with many making the same observation about the space menu.
“They eating better in space than me on Earth,” one person commented. Another user also remarked: “…on a spaceship still eating better than 99% of the world.”
A third user noted: “Creamy spinach with nutmeg and coconut milk sounds fancy for zero gravity.”
While someone else posted: “Artemis II crew about to be dining in orbit like it’s a 10-day fine-dining experience.”
Another added: “10 days of pre-packaged meals but at least they got variety.”
