Justin Rose’s caddie, Mark Fulcher, concedes that the former world number one is tough to work with at times. ‘Fooch’ as Rose’s looper is also known, carried his clubs between 2008 and 2019 before heart surgery stopped Fulcher doing so until 2023.
After taking indefinite leave from his role on the advice of doctors, the caddie returned to golf and reunited with Rose in time for the Ryder Cup. The pair have continued working together ever since.
Rose has rediscovered his game over the past few years and is again contending. He won just once during the time without Fulcher.

Speaking to Beyond The Clubhouse about what Rose is like to work with, the caddie said: “He’s tough, at times, but he’s also very fair.
“He puts in 100% effort, and all he expects of his team members is to put in the same, so if we all do that, then nothing can be said at the end of the week.
“We’re talking about what he needs at a certain time, and energy conservation is really important. He’s 45, incredibly fit, amazingly fit for his age, but we all have to understand that, you know, Father Time is catching up.

“We have to be aware of the boundaries. I think we’re all pretty good at controlling them. “
Fulcher explained how Rose prepares for events, saying: “He leaves no stone unturned; he prepares as well as he possibly can.
“He looks after his team very well, but in return, he expects them to try and match his effort and resolve, and try to solve a problem, whether it’s Augusta, whether it’s the Open Championship, or whether it’s Bay Hill. I think that’s why he gets such a good group of lads together who are able to commit their time and knowledge.

“Golf is about losing most of the time, so winning’s very rare. It takes a lot of effort, and Rosie puts in 105%, so that’s why he’s been so successful.”
Rose has yet to win the Masters, finishing as a runner-up three times, including to Rory McIlroy after their playoff last year. Fulcher also spoke about the challenges posed by Augusta as his player prepares to finally win the Masters.
He said: “It’s just so incredibly hilly. I think the first thing that anybody who’s been there for the first time says about it is just how undulating it is.”
