Police were called to Lord Warwick Street at 3.40pm on Thursday (April 2) following reports of a shooting.

Despite the efforts of paramedics, the boy – now named as Eghosa Ogbebor – was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident

Emergency services rushed to Lord Warwick Street, near Church Street and Woolwich Dockyard station, after reports of a shooting.

A cordon was put in place as forensic teams began examining the scene, with a tent erected outside a block of flats.

Pictures captured on Thursday, April 3 show the scene with a major police presence, forensic tent, police tape and flowers which were laid on the road in tribute to Eghosa.

Victim named as 14-year-old Eghosa Ogbebor

Police confirmed that the victim has been named as 14-year-old Eghosa Ogbebor .

Formal identification has not yet taken place.

His family has been informed and is being supported by specialist officers.

Tributes naming Eghosa began circulating on TikTok hours after the shooting.

Three arrested – now released on bail

Three people were arrested following the fatal shooting:

A 14-year-old boy

A 16-year-old boy

An 18-year-old man

All three were arrested on suspicion of murder.

Police confirmed today (April 4) that all three have been released on bail as enquiries continue.

Police investigation ‘continues at pace’

Detective Chief Inspector Lucie Card, whose team is leading the investigation, said: “Our thoughts remain with the boy’s family and loved ones.

“We are aware of the concern that this incident will cause the local community. We have already made three arrests, and our investigation continues at pace.

“An increased police presence remains in the area.

“I would appeal for anyone who was in the area at the time, who has CCTV or dash cam footage of the incident or has information that could help my officers to come forward.”

Mayor Sadiq Khan responds

London mayor Sir Sadiq Khan said: “My thoughts are with the family, friends and wider community in Woolwich following the appalling fatal shooting of a 14-year-old boy.

“There is absolutely no place for this heartbreaking violence.

“I remain in close contact with the Met, who have been working around the clock. Arrests have already been made and an investigation is under way.

“Residents will see an increase in police in the local area.”
