The Brighton loanee made his comeback in the 2-2 draw against Stockport County, this first outing since injuring his knee ligaments in January.
Cozier-Duberry had a late shot blocked as Bolton threw everything forward in search of a winner, with Chris Forino also hitting the bar with a stoppage time header.
Schumacher explained the decision to bring his star winger back into the squad ahead of next weekend’s trip to Cardiff City was made in an effort to lift a flagging squad.
“He has been working his way back to fitness but we decided yesterday to get him on the bench and give everybody a lift,” he said.
“We had George Johnston unavailable because of illness and we obviously know about the two central midfield players (Ethan Erhahon and Xavier Simons) who are missing at the moment.
“We were a bit light in the squad so we thought: ‘Right, there’s a spot on the bench and hopefully it’ll give the crowd a bit of a lift too, which it certainly did.
“It was lovely to have him back on, it’s going to take him a bit of time to get up to his full rhythm, but when he does, we all know how good of a player he can be.”
Wanderers went ahead against Stockport through Johnny Kenny but conceded an equaliser in stoppage time with Adama Sidibeh netting from close range.
Tayo Edun pounced on a heavily deflected shot from Odin Bailey to give County the lead at the start of the season half but when Ben Osbourn’s own goal brought Bolton level again, they pushed hard to find a win that could have put them to within six points of next week’s opponents Cardiff.
“It was a good game, it was a close game,” Schumacher said. “Both teams tried to win it, which was good, and in the end I think probably a point is, on reflection, probably a fair result.
“Bboth teams had spells where they were on top. I felt we started the game brightly, they came into it, in the middle period of the first half we got ourselves in front, maybe against the run of play.
“From that moment we needed to get in at half time and readjust but to lose a goal late on was disappointing, especially such a soft one. Direct goal kick, and we didn’t deal with that well enough, didn’t stop the cross.
“When they scored the second goal early into the second half, it would have been easy for our lads’ heads to drop, but they never, they kept going.
“We responded well, the changes did help, I thought Thierry (Gale) was bright when he came on, Ruben (Rodrigues), Mason (Burstow) and Amario (Cozier-Duberry), getting him on the pitch, giving the crowd a whole lift.
“And in the end, I thought we deserved an equaliser, and potentially at the end, maybe could have won it.
“I thought it was a good game, I just look back at all the stats and all the data, and it was really close, and I don’t think Dave would probably say the same, that both teams could have won it, both teams could have lost it.”
