Kanye West already has his visa to come to the UK, but that decision is now understood to be under review.
Melvin Benn, managing director at Festival Republic, which promotes Wireless Festival, told Today on BBC Radio 4 that West’s Visa had been “issued in the last few days”.
Benn said: “He has a visa already issued to appear, to come into the country, and the home secretary may well rescind that today, I don’t know.
“If she does, she does, and then the issue is over in terms of his appearance.”
The government has discretion to ban foreign nationals from the UK if their presence is not considered “conducive to the public good”.
A ban can be ordered by the home secretary personally, and government guidance states it will normally involve serious issues such as national security, war crimes, corruption or extremism.
Officials, such as immigration officials, can also refuse visas or entry at the border over someone’s conduct, character or associations. Additional grounds include anticipated incitement of public disorder.
Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood has faced calls from politicians and the Campaign Against Antisemitism to ban West from coming to the UK.
