The clay swing continues to gain momentum at WTA Linz as we approach the halfway point of the second week. As such, Day 3 in Linz sees the No. 1 seed in action, and that too against a Major champion. But that is far from all, as yet another day in the unique indoor clay conditions is set to commence—one for which we, as always, will be predicting every encounter. But who do you think will advance?
WTA Linz Day 3 Predictions
Anastasia Potapova vs Zhang Shuai
Head-to-head: Potapova 1-0 Zhang
This matchup between two players who like to control rallies from the baseline will likely be decided by who takes the initiative in rallies first. Zhang Shuai enters on a four-match losing streak and will be eager to turn things around, while Anastasia Potapova returns from a month-long break. In indoor conditions, Potapova’s flatter groundstrokes and stronger serve should give her the edge.
Prediction: Potapova in 3
Dalma Galfi vs Sorana Cirstea
Head-to-head: Cirstea 1-0 Galfi
Sorana Cirstea, in what is her final season on tour, has been playing solid tennis, which was evident in her opening-round performance. Dalma Galfi’s baseline style suits clay, allowing her time to construct points, but Cirstea operates at a higher level in most areas from the back of the court. Given her current form, anything other than a Cirstea win would be a surprise.
Prediction: Cirstea in 2
Mirra Andreeva vs Sloane Stephens
Head-to-head: Stephens 1-0 Andreeva
Top seed Mirra Andreeva begins her campaign against former French Open runner-up Sloane Stephens. Stephens, short on wins coming into the tournament, picked up an important first-round victory that should boost her confidence. However, Andreeva represents a significant step up in quality. While the Russian has shown some vulnerabilities after a strong 2025 start, she still possesses enough overall consistency and firepower to come through comfortably.
Prediction: Andreeva in 2
