After 12 seasons and 132 episodes, American Horror Story is showing no signs of slowing down, with the long-running horror anthology series due to return in the near future with its latest saga.

Not much is known about the successor to 2023’s American Horror Story: Delicate, but we do know that the cast includes several familiar faces, with the returning Sarah Paulson, Angela Bassett and Evan Peters.

Another star who is returning to the series after a long absence is Jessica Lange, marking her first appearance in the franchise since American Horror Story: Apocalypse – the eighth season overall – in 2018.

Ahead of the release of the currently untitled 13th season, the Instagram account for Ryan Murphy Productions shared some first-look images of Lange from the first day of filming.

“American Horror Story, Season 13. Day One. The return of Jessica Lange!” the caption teased, alongside a post featuring three photos of the actor. In each shot, Lange faces away from the camera, keeping her look mostly under wraps while offering a subtle preview of her costume.

The comment section was filled with plenty of excited fans, with one writing: “Omg! Can’t wait! Plz make it a Coven extension! I need the witches in my life! Especially Angela Bassett as Marie Laveau.”

It seems they will get their wish, as Murphy implied that it was a continuation of Coven by replying: “Done.” Coven was the third season of the show, with Apocalypse serving as a successor to that story as well as Murder House and Hotel.

Several other fans in the comment section referred to Lange as “mother”, while others hoped that she would be reprising her iconic role of Constance Langdon. Either way, we’ll have to wait and see.

That’s because the plot details for the 13th season are being kept under wraps, though we do know that the aforementioned stars will be joined by Kathy Bates, Ariana Grande, Emma Roberts, Billie Lourd, Gabourey Sidibe, Leslie Grossman and John Waters.

American Horror Story airs on FX in the US and Disney+ in the UK.
