Michelle Collins, best known for playing Cindy Beale in the BBC soap, fell while trying to stop her dog Peggy from “bolting out the door” while visiting friends for the Easter bank holiday weekend.

She “bashed” her knee and was left with “cuts and bruises”, leaving her in A&E at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King’s Lynn.

In a post shared to her 168,000 Instagram followers, the 63-year-old tagged the EastEnders account and said she would need to do “sitting down scenes this week”.

EastEnders’ production team is well-used to dealing with these situations.

Balvinder Sopal, who portrays Suki Panesar, injured her hip and glute while training for Strictly Come Dancing in September.

She was seen wearing a boot on screen, and writers incorporated it into the plot by having Suki explain she was hurt in a “mosh pit” at a gig.

Similarly, Lacey Turner, who plays Stacey Slater, gave birth to her third child, Gipsy Olive, in January 2025.

Her character was not pregnant at the time, so her bump was carefully hidden by flowy clothes and props such as large bags.

Collins, who also played Stella Price in Coronation Street, publicly leapt to the defence of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital after her ordeal.

The QEH was ranked the worst in the country last year – but Collins said she “never would have known” based on the service she received.

She praised the “great”, “efficient” and “kind” staff and said it seemed “so unfair to label a hospital like this”.

Her words were met with a positive response from locals.

“My local hospital so thank you for saying that,” @kimtinkler added.
