Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Emmerdale has seen former couple Charity Dingle and Vanessa Woodfield sharing a kiss after a tragic development in the IVF storyline.

Charity previously agreed to be her granddaughter Sarah Sugden‘s surrogate, but recently had some bleeding after having a fall.

In today’s one-hour episode, Charity’s pregnancy test came back negative. While Sarah was in denial and still held out hope, Charity came clean about her fall.

Sarah couldn’t mask her disappointment in her grandma, lashing out at her for jeopardising her dream to start a family.

Later on, Charity opened up to her husband Mackenzie Boyd, saying she’d let Sarah down.

“Everything happens for a reason, doesn’t it? And maybe this is for the best,” Mack tried.

Charity accused him to be relieved after he expressed doubts about the surrogacy and kicked him out.

Later on, Mack came back home and apologised to Charity, admitting he was glad she wasn’t pregnant due to the health risks connected to her age.

Charity accused him of being insensitive and laid the blame on him for dragging her to the woods and leading her to fall.

“I get it that she desperately wants a kid, but what about anyone else?” Mack said.

“You’re not doing yourself any favours whatsoever by going along with this, at best, desperate plan,” he added.

A furious Charity called Mack selfish for not being able to see past his needs, storming out of the kitchen.

Meanwhile, Cain offered Sarah to pay for a second embryo transfer.

At the Woolpack, Vanessa found Charity day drinking and offered to take her home to sober her up.

At Vanessa’s, Charity wined and whined about having made a huge mistake, with her ex assuring her they could still fix it.

Charity then moved onto venting about Mack, saying: “I’ve seen another side to Mackenzie over the past few weeks, babe, and I don’t think I like it.”

Vanessa said they would patch things up, but a drunken Charity insisted she’d been “a fool” to let Vanessa go for Mack.

After dinner, Charity begged Vanessa to let her stay over. When Vanessa suggested she could stay in Tracy’s bed, Charity said she wouldn’t unless she went with her.

“You know, to keep me company,” Charity said, leaning over to kiss Vanessa right in the final scene.

Will Vanessa respond to the kiss or will she see sense now that Charity can’t? Emmerdale promises some more drama ahead for the ex-couple.

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
