It’s claimed inheritance tax “discrimination” is burdening an increasing number of Clare families.

Under the current rules, children can inherit up to €400,000 worth of cash, property or other goods tax free.

However this falls to just €40,000 for siblings, nieces and nephews with limited exceptions and is of particular concern in rural areas.

Tullycrine based Aontú representative June Dillon says it should be based on personal circumstances not a family tree.
