A hard-hitting police ‘dispersal order’ has been introduced in the Failsworth area of Oldham after reported disorder said to involve groups of youths.
The order – launched at noon on Saturday – will remain in place until 7am on Sunday, Greater Manchester Police. A similar order, brought in in response to similar issues of disorder and criminal damage, was authorised in Rochdale earlier this month.
GMP said officers have implemented a section 35 dispersal order in Failsworth after ‘incidents of anti-social behaviour’. The force reported groups of yobs causing criminal damage at a business, as well as causing concern to local communities.

The order allows officers to exclude a person or people from an area between stated times. It covers the Partington Street area extending to Brierly Avenue, Lord Lane and Ashton Road East.
Inspector Matthew Catlow, from GMP’s Oldham division, said: “This order has been implemented to provide further powers for officers in the area to deal with anti-social behaviour, and to protest people and businesses.
“Anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated and where this is reported to us, we will look to take action – either through proactive action including arrests or preventative problem-solving work alongside our local partners.”
