Asha Bhosle, the legendary Indian playback singer whose voice helped define Bollywood, has died at 92 after suffering a heart attack in Mumbai. Her son confirmed the news. With a career spanning more than eight decades and over 12,000 songs, Bhosle became one of Indian cinema’s most enduring and versatile musical icons.
She was celebrated for a voice that could move effortlessly between romantic ballads, cabaret-style hits, devotional songs, ghazals and pop collaborations. Classics such as ‘Dum Maro Dum’, ‘Piya Tu Ab To Aaja’, and songs from films including ‘Teesri Manzil’, ‘Caravan’, ‘Umrao Jaan’ and ‘Saagar’ cemented her place in the soundtrack of generations.
