Donald Trump has insisted his deteriorating relationship with Sir Keir Starmer will not have an impact on the King’s state visit to America.

Speaking to Sky News, the US President described Charles as a “great gentleman”, adding: “I’ve known him for a long time. He’s wonderful, wonderful person.”

Mr Trump said his strained relationship with the Prime Minister would “not at all” overshadow the royal visit.

He added that while he liked Sir Keir, he had made a “tragic mistake in closing the North Sea oil”, as well as “a tragic mistake on immigration”.
