Former Scottish first minister Nicola Sturgeon
Nicola Sturgeon has opened up about her sexuality as she rejected false rumours of a gay affair with a French diplomat.
In her memoirs, the former First Minister also said sexual relationships should be private matters.
Sturgeon’s book ‘Frankly’, which will be published next week, will delve into her nine years as leader of the country.
In an extract published in The Times, she addressed speculation that she is gay, despite marrying Peter Murrell in 2010.
In the book, she re-told a story of how social media claimed she was having a secret relationship with a woman, the then French ambassador to the UK, Catherine Colonna.
Sturgeon flatly denied the claim and warned of how false stories can take root on social media.
In another section of the book, she is believed to have rejected labelling her sexuality.
